I’ve always designed my client’s homes for coziness and comfort. While aesthetics are vital to the vision and the overall look, ensuring a client’s home looks and feels like a home and not a hotel lobby is key to design work. And now it seems, the trend is here for 2026.

According to Better Homes & Gardens, “Designers and clients are seeing a shift from homes that look good to homes that feel good. There is less of an emphasis on styling, and more attention to comfort and stylish practicality. Sumptuous textiles with inviting textures, such as velvet, are hugely popular among designers and their clients. Likewise, people are reaching for warm color schemes and lighting to create a sense of welcome and retreat.” Warm lighting, and layering with rugs, throws, pillows, art and thoughtful décor pieces define a refined but relaxed room from the kitchen (warm lighting in the kitchen, not throws and pillows, Obv!) to the bedroom.
