Hats are traditionally associated with Easter so what better time to make some time to organize the hats in your closet. Whether they’re formal hats, beach hats or baseball caps, organizing your hats can be the first step to bringing order and style to your closet. As a professional organizer, I find that reimagining my client’s hat collections is a fun and creative exercise that brings attention to their collection and is a small but energetic way to create calm and synergy. Because they are small, hats everywhere just communicates a sense of disarray you don’t want. Before and After of Hats Organization:

Now organize those hats!
1. Make sure you designate at least 2 hours to this process. It’s going to take a little bit of time but when it’s done, it’s done.
2. Prepare your bed or some other flat surface so that it is clear. You will need a work surface.
3. Begin by laying out your hats by category, whether that’s by color or sports team or style of hat. Black hats with black hats, blue hats with blue hats, baseball hats with baseball hats, beach hats with beach hats, dressy hats with dressy hats, etc.
4. Don’t be afraid to let go by deciding which hats you would like to donate or discard if they no longer serve you.
5. Next, layer your grouped hats together one-by-one but do not add more than five hats together or they will begin to fall to the side and you’re right back to where you began and we don’t want that.
6. Add your re-organized hats to their previous space or a new space you’ve created, making sure you add at least a half-inch between them so they look orderly and uncluttered.
